Hoecherl-Hackl TRL Series

The Hoecherl-Hackl TRL series of DC electronic loads feed the recovered energy back to the power grid. It does not require permanent installation in a rack. These energy recovery loads are very quiet, making them ideal for laboratory developers.

  • Energy recovered to the local power grid with an efficiency of ~90%
  • Basic operating modes: CC, CV, CR, CP
  • Combined operating modes: CC+CV, CR+CC+CV, CP+CC+CV, CV+CC
  • Front and rear load and sense terminals
  • OCP/OVP protection mechanisms
  • Square wave, PWM, and modulation functions
  • Synchronized DAQ (data acquisition) with data stored internally or on a USB drive
  • MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking)
  • Internal resistance measurement functionality
  • Supports parallel master-slave operation of up to five units
Standard I/O ports (optional isolation available)

List, square wave, PWM, and custom modulation functions

List mode: In all operating modes (CC, CV, CR, CP), list mode can generate load curves. Up to 300 time configurations can be set. Voltage and current are measured simultaneously and timestamped data is logged.

Square waveform function: Provides a convenient method to generate square wave shapes by inputting absolute time and amplitude values.

PWM modulation: With PWM functionality, switching frequency and duty cycle can be set for two amplitude values in manual mode.

Custom mode: Sine wave, square wave, or triangular wave signals can be added to the static setting in CC or CV modes.

Storage-related Discharge Testing

Suitable for batteries, battery packs, supercapacitors, and electrolytic capacitors in CC or CP discharge mode or CR mode. The discharge function can be performed using list mode, and pulse discharge methods are also viable. Additionally, IUA discharge (CC+CV discharge) is supported: discharging at a constant rate, maintaining a set voltage when the current reaches the specified level, and continuing until the defined minimum current is achieved. Stop criteria include charge, energy, time, current, or voltage. During data recording, a duration can be defined to observe the power charge phase.

Internal Resistance Measurement

The TRL series electronic load can measure the internal DC resistance of the connected DUT (Device Under Test).
The determination of internal resistance (Ri) adheres to principles specified in various battery standards, such as DIN EN 61951 and DIN EN 61960. The load measures the terminal voltages (V1, V2) of the DUT under two defined load levels (I1, I2) every few seconds and calculates Ri based on these measurements.
With the press of a button, the load can save the parameters and measurement results to a connected USB mass storage device, enabling fast and continuous production workflows.

DAQ Data Logging

The electronic load can synchronously store voltage, current, and other data over time, tagging them at defined intervals. Up to 40,000 records can be stored in the buffer and later retrieved via a data interface. Alternatively, data can be transferred directly to a USB flash drive for intervals within the range of seconds.
